Irish Military Museum – Explore Ireland’s Military History. Step back in time at the Irish Military Museum in Starinagh, Collon, Co. Meath, one of Ireland’s most unique and interactive museums. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, the museum offers an unforgettable experience for history enthusiasts, families, school groups, and visitors exploring Ireland’s Ancient East.
Home to one of Europe’s most extensive collections of military artefacts, the Irish Military Museum features thousands of original exhibits spanning the Napoleonic Wars, the American Civil War, the 1916 Rising, World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. Unlike many traditional museums, visitors can enjoy a hands-on experience by getting up close to authentic uniforms, equipment, vehicles, memorabilia, and historical artefacts.
Discover fascinating displays of armoured vehicles, military technology, historic weaponry, medals, and personal stories that reveal how conflict has shaped the modern world. The museum is also home to an impressive collection of film and television props and costumes from productions including Band of Brothers, Braveheart, A Bridge Too Far, and Game of Thrones.
Throughout the year, the museum hosts Living History Weekends, historical re-enactments, talks, exhibitions, and family-friendly events, bringing history to life with costumed interpreters, military displays, and interactive demonstrations. Many of these special events are included with standard admission.
Whether you’re planning a family day out, an educational visit, or simply looking for one of the best museums in County Meath, the Irish Military Museum offers a fascinating journey through centuries of military history.
